Lochmaben Castle - Ruined Castle on a promontory in Castle Loch. One time seat of Robert The Bruce's family.
Ruthwell Cross - Magnificent stone cross bears runic and Latin inscriptions. 680AD.
Sweetheart Abbey - Splendid remains of a late 13th and early 14th century Cistercian Abbey, founded by Lady Devorguilla, Lady of Galloway in memory of her husband John Balliol.
Threave Castle - Massive Tower on an Island in the River Dee, built by Archibald The Grim in the late 14th century and later the stronghold of the Black Douglas.
Carlyle's Birthplace, Ecclefechan - Birthplace of Thomas Carlyle the writer and historian, in 1795. Portraits, manuscripts etc.

Devils Porridge, Eastriggs - So called because of the explosive nature of the explosives, which were mixed by hand!! This is an Exhibition on the 'secret' history of the local Ordnance Factory.
Dumfries Aviation Museum - Fascinating collection of aircraft and associated memorabilia housed in a unique World War 2 control Tower.
Nature
Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Caerlaverock - Throughout autumn, winter and spring, thousands of wild Geese and other birds can be seen from hides and observation towers. In summer, trails meander through flower meadows alive with wildlife.
